In January 2020, the IMO global sulphur cap came into effect, driving the widespread use of Exhaust Gas Cleaning Systems (EGCS) to reduce sulphur emissions. Wet scrubber systems use washwater to clean exhaust gases, making continuous washwater monitoring essential before discharge into the sea.
The SMART ESM, developed by Rivertrace with over 35 years of marine monitoring experience, is designed in line with MEPC.259(68) and MEPC.340(77). It measures and records PAH, pH, turbidity, and temperature, ensuring compliance for open-loop, closed-loop, and hybrid scrubber systems. The system is suitable for both newbuild and retrofit installations, and for inlet and outlet monitoring.
An innovative plug-and-play measuring cell design allows each measurement parameter to be replaced without isolating the sample flow. This reduces maintenance time and supports continuous operation. The system also features automatic optical cleaning and on-screen historical data trends.
Optional components include a sample heat exchanger (for temperatures above 40°C) and a motor or pump (for sample pressures below 0.5 bar).
Louis Safety, an ADNOC-approved and authorised vendor provides installation, commissioning, calibration, compliance checks, spare parts, and inspection readiness for SMART ESM systems across Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and other UAE locations.
